So what's more disappointing than Beatmania coming out for the U.S., it's probably Rock Revolution and what is even worse is Konami's attempt to create a portable for it. Rock Revolution for Nintendo DS takes a rather unethical approach to providing Guitar and Drum simulation for the tiny handheld in each of its different insturments. For example, in Guitar you only have to strum either up or down when an arrow cross over the strings of the guitar, that's it now handling of struts. It may sound easy but the controls are very sketchy so going even the wrong way by the slightest bit will cause a mistake and doc you points and health. Bass the arrows scroll along the strings of the guitar on the view of the touch screen and you must then strum up and down to each arrow when they reach the end of the line to the right of the screen. Why couldn't they do this for both versions? Drums don't work at all. You must simply tap each color coded drum or symbol as it scrolls on a travel line shown above as it passes through the target zone. However even in beginner's you can really make a go of this. Graphics are terrible. Whoever they hired to draw the characters definitly did not know how to draw either and in the upper screen where you see the characters perform its nothing more than flip screen animation for each character and doesn't look like anything the Nintendo DS is capable of doing. Song selection is also pathetic as many of the songs can be found on more fun games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band and any repeat song is not sung by the original artist and doesn't at all sound good. With that said, this game is rated a "D" for lack of intitutive gameplay in comparison to other games like Guitar Hero: On Tour and lackluster graphics and songs. No wonder they had to slash the price right away! I also can't help but notice the game also does not endorse the "BEMANI" brand anywhere on the third party developed game. All I can say to that is no wonder.
