Heya DDR Encore guys,

Just thought I would stop by and leave thoughts on Sporktoberfest this year. This is the third tournament I have been to (the other two were also run by Spork), and the first Sporktoberfest I have been to.

I had such a great time at the tournament. It was great meeting a bunch of new people and seeing people who I met at previous tournaments. I think one of my favorite parts of the tournament was watching that horrible mess of a set between Chris K and X.

As for myself, I won a round which is much further than I ever expected to get in the tournament, so I was very happy about that.

Also, thanks for the copy of Beatmania US! :D I'm gonna go explore any Gamestops I come across and see if I can't pick up a controller for that. I think once that happens my productivity as a student is going to drop dramatically.

Anyways, just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the great people and great times I had at the singles tournament. I'm sad I can't make it to the doubles, but I have some pretty intense homework to finish up today. :(

Cheers!

-J

MYST EDIT: I am really glad that you liked it and want to hear from everyone else! Please let me know what we can do better and what you want to see next time. See ya October 23rd, 2010!

This was our first sporktoberfest (me, kyzentun and the idaho guys) and we all had fun. We hate to see it end, mostly because of the long horrible drive home (Corey is going to drop me and Kyzentun off in Salt Lake around 2am and continue driving north!). But also because it was just so much fun hanging and meeting new people.

Nothing but positives from us. Thank you everybody. We'll be back next year!

edit> I'll get the pics that I took uploaded sometime this week. I seem to have lost my card reader. :(

My second Sporktoberfest. My 4th tournament outside of conventions, because conventions don't count.
Lots of fun. I enjoyed it. My first time making it to the winners bracket my first round!

It was great. I must say, it was really nice to see the Beatmania machines on freeplay as well as having the DDR X and Rock Band and that other Beatmania game set up and running, those home versions. Gave me and everyone else, I'm sure, something to do while waiting around without having to drop a lot of cash to kill the time. I hope to see that or something like it again next year.
And having the big room was good. Last year it did get a little crowded.
And the projector idea was good. Originally I heard that the games were gonna be shown up there, but the bracket was good as well, so everyone could keep track of stuff.
Aaannddd ummmm...
The door prizes were cute. I didn't win any but you guys supplying that was all happy dandy.

And I just had a whole lot of fun and met some new people and got to know some other people better and eventually I'll come for both days.
I'm looking forward to next year and I'm totally gonna bring that flier and get $2 off. Because you said I could.

All my photos can be found here. Sorry about the red eye. No computer means no Photoshop. ):
And I've got videos of a few different people, but not everyone, which you can find on my YouTube channel. Didn't get the finals. Had to leave early.

And oh. I was supposed to meet and say hello to Kyzentun, but I didn't figure this out until earlier today. So uh, someone tell him Dodrio says hi because... someone told me to.
And Delrio. We totally need to figure out something to do with our names, haha.

Clearly not as good as everyone else here. Clearly.

Haha, Dodrio.

I'll try to choose a different name for every tournament from now on, you can play a guessing game as to who I am. Anything involving Taco Bell menu items is probably me. Who knows.

Kyzentun doesn't really visit a lot of other message boards. But I'll tell him you said hi. Also, hi.

If I see someone calling themselves "Volcano Taco", I'm going to cry.

Quick post before I run off to work.
I really enjoyed the whole tournament. Having DDRX set up with a Flux was good (even though the flux needs some maintenance). Without it, I probably wouldn't have picked Horatio in the singles tournament.

The doubles tournament was fun too, but I wish there had been more people at it. It was still fun to compete though, with the close scores for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th (pretty sure I was in 4th before Strange Injection Another). Nai, don't give up next time.

Dodrio, if it was Nelly that told you to say hi, then tell her I said hi back. Also, hi.

Lastly, my few videos of the doubles tournament are on my Youtube channel.
If I got names wrong or anything, just tell me. I only took videos of the first and last songs and a couple random ones because my camera only has enough battery life for ~50 minutes of video, and I didn't want to run out and be unable to get the final rounds. I'll get a second battery eventually.

Delrio I think your best shot at finding the controller is going to be eBay at best. I tried finding a Controller at every Gamestop and other used game store across Northern Colorado and to no luck whatsoever. Main reason is that U.S. controllers are a little more favored than the standard Japanese ones in terms of performance amongst pro beatmania players. Even Spork pretty well took my second one which was fine with me, I would rather find a Japanese one so that I can use it on a computer as the American ones don't even work with any PS2 to USB adapters I have.

Thank you every one for the pictures and more! We appreciate you sharing them! Expect more on the site itself shortly.

It's kind of funny that I didn't find out about this tournament until the day before it happened. But I'm glad I went, and I'll definitely try to make it next year.

I've been trying to find a Beatmania controller for a long time also and I still don't have one. I've just had to make do with a PS2 controller, a keyboard, and occasional trips to an arcade that had Beatmania. So I thought it was really nice that there was a Beatmania machine there on free play. ;)

I'm sorry for the huge delay in getting my pictures up. I put them onto my colo (deliciouscake.net) and started getting lots of i/o errors on the hard drive. So my drive is dying. I did receive my replacement drives today and will probably get those put into my machine by this weekend sometime.

Until then, I could probably upload them to my /home space at work. But they won't be in any kind of gallery or anything. Just... a directory listing :)
